Loft Bed Frame Design

Loft bed frame – Making bed loft is a task that requires some carpentry skills, but when done it can add much space to your room. A loft is just a regular bed with longer legs than lifts bed 5 or 6 feet from the floor. If you are not uncomfortably sleeping to high from the floor, it’s a great way to add space to a desk or comfy chair in the room. Read on to learn how to build a dorm loft. Select the size of your bed or in many cases your bed size has already been selected and you simply want to build a frame that gives the height of your old mattress.

Cut four pieces for the loft bed frame. Do not forget to take into account the thickness of the boards and then add another ¼ inch on each side to allow the mattress to move. For example, if you make a bed irregular size of 3 X 6, you will then cut two pieces at a length of 6 and ½ inch. The extra half-inch is to give a quarter of a game room on each side. Now when you cut the other two members will add you ½ inch for the game room plus you add another 3 inches to allow for the thickness of the timber. (This assumes you use standard 2 X 6’s or 2 X 8’s because they are exactly one inch and a half thick.) Now cut the length of your boards and make sure each cut is square.

Now put the frame together. You can use ¼-inch layer bolts that are 2 ½ inches long. You need 12 to put the loft bed frame together. There will be two rows of wood at each end and each bolt will be lowered so that the head does not last. For summer vacation each bolt launch hole with a 5/8 inch speed drill bit and drill in the side of the exit boards to a depth of ½ inch. Mark the face of the drill with a piece of tape to keep the speed drill bit from going too deep into the tree. When the tape hits wood it’s time to stop drilling. Then, a pilot hole lives for each team. Drive layer slowly bolt with an electric screw gun or a ratchet wrench. You can gather the four member’s right on the floor to insure a square and level bed.
