Ideas for Make a Rustic King Bed Frame

Rustic king bed frame – If you enjoy looking outdoor activities, making your own rustic bed structure is not only an ideal project, but it will also save you money. If you live near a wooded area, pick up your own pieces of wood or visit a wood store to collect the wood that suits your style, such as natural birch wood. Making your own bed structure is an easy weekend project, and takes just a few tools to finish.

Gather your natural birch wood, or buy it through a wood store. Sit out on a protective cover, and spray with pesticides to remove any remaining insects on the tree. Allow to dry in the sun for 12 hours to remove excess moisture. Cut out the pieces according to the size of the bed structure you want. A typical queen size mattress is 60 by 80 inches. You will need to cut four medium pieces for the head and foot of two long pieces, to account for the side rails of the frame, and cut many smaller pieces to add to the headboard and foot. The measurement of these will be dictated by the width of the header.  Attach the rustic king bed frame. The headboard will have two vertical pieces; the side frame will have two horizontal pieces, followed by two vertical pieces for the foot of bed. 4 drill holes in the wood that will connect the pieces together. Two holes in the head pieces and feet should be sufficient from 3 to 4 inches from the bottom.

Drill screws into pre-drilled holes to attach to long horizontal side racks. It will have a total of 4 screws of the vertical header pieces, and four screws of the stirrup pieces. Place the smaller pieces horizontally over the vertical posts of the header, spacing each about 2 inches apart. Lay boards 1-by-6 feet horizontally on the rustic king bed frame to provide support to the mattress. Fill gaps with wood, sand and down putty to soften. Stain the wood according to your preferences, and wait for it to dry. Add the mattress and mattress to the bed structure, and make the bed.
