How to Reupholster a Queen Size Sofa Bed

If the queen size sofa bed has seen better days, you can either throw out, or you can reupholster it. Reupholstering can make old furniture look clean and stylish, at a fraction of the price to buy a new one. It’s not as difficult as it seems. The hardest part is cutting the new fabric the right dimensions. By carefully removing the old fabric, you can use it to get perfect measurements.

How to reupholster a queen size sofa bed. Remove the old fabric from the couch. It is probably attached with staples and small nails. Use pliers to pull them out. If the fabric is glued on, you may need to cut. Hold all zippers. Keep track of all the pieces of cloth. Mark each so that you know where it came from. If you cut a piece into sections, keep them together. This will help you reduce the new fabric to the exact size of the sofa. Check the old padding. If it is still in good condition, leave it. Otherwise, remove it and replace it with new padding. Hold down new batting with padding pins, using the hammer to bang them. Spread the new fabric.  Place the old fabrics on top of the new fabric and trace using a fabric pen. Cut the new fabric with a cloth scissors leaving 2-3 “on each side of your track. You will need the extra fabric to attach it to the sofa.

Sew old zippers on the new fabric with the sewing machine. And then use old pieces as a guide. Hang new fabric over the queen size sofa bed. Make sure each piece is in the right place. Keep the fabric in place with the help of a cloth stick. Start on the back of the couch and attach the fabric with a staple gun, fold over the sides. Continue to attach the fabric to the rest of the couch, leaving armrests last. You may need to develop and fold the sleeper to gain access to all parts. Trim any excess fabric and use hot glue to attach piping or trim.
